Transport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

I would like to take an old gas guzzler car off the road.

I have spent about an hour so far researching hybrid and electric cars. I found the EIA.gov website to research what is powering our electric grid in Texas. Not too surprising that it is mostly natural gas (but Texas uses the most wind energy of all the states).  That means that a hybrid car might be a good choice here because an electric car would be using quite a lot of natural gas here in Texas.

Note that the total lifecycle cost of an electric vehicle is already lower than hybrid or conventional, so it's also a good investment of your money.  It's predicted that in as few as 5 or perhaps 10 years, battery technology cost will reduce to the point where electric will also be cheaper up front, such that almost no one will buy gasoline-powered vehicles anymore.
