When walking around my city, I've noticed debris and garbage along the roadsides and in the ditches. It sucks to see the environment in such shape. The sidewalks are also pretty narrow in some parts, and in other places they just end on one side, so you have to cross the street to continue walking on the sidewalk. Also, there are some areas that are just really plain and lack greenery. I think that if there were either larger areas of grass to walk on or larger sidewalks (and sidewalk present on both sides of the road) it would make the walks more possible. Also adding more green space would make the walks more enjoyable. Either way, my favorite places to walk are nature trails, and it doesn't get more green than that, but just adding a little more of the green beauty to our constructed environment would make it all the more appealing and inviting, and would encourage people to go out and take walks.

I think that I'm lucky because where I live, there is more green than, say, a city of skyscrapers and such. Parts of my city are still not as developed as they could be, so the green and trees are still there. But it is a constant struggle to keep it that way.

I hope that others will see how important it is to have nature around when we walk around our cities.

So I haven't been checking in lately... I didn't keep track of my food waste every day that I didn't track, but some I did. Life is busy sometimes, but I try to make time for the things that matter (my home planet). I have been doing plenty for my Environmental Club at my college, Seminole State. Earth Day events are crazy to set up and plan for!

Anyway, with that said, I am going to log my food waste again today. I can't be too hard on myself I guess.

It's wonderful that you're conscious of your impact at all. As they say, progress, not perfection. Keep at it! :)

It has been interesting to actually track the food waste I am producing. I don't usually throw away anything I make unless its the scraps from cooking, but there are lots of scraps! Especially banana peels. I was curious, so I researched if there was anything I could do with banana peels besides tossing them, and besides composting, I found that you can eat them in many different ways! Along with some interesting information about banana peels and bananas in general:

Americans eat approximately 3.2 billion pounds of bananas a year
12% of a banana's weight is its peel, which means that is 780 million pounds of peels headed for landfills
At the landfills they emit methane - a harmful greenhouse gas!

This is listed on this website along with 10 things you can do with the banana peel instead of tossing it: https://www.finedininglovers.com/blog/food-drinks/things-to-do-with-banana-peel/

I'm gonna search for recipes <3
The next time I have a banana (tomorrow) I will save the peel!

Same here Hayley, but this really makes me think: "What else am I throwing out that has other uses?" :)

I love these alternative uses! I find banana peels most useful as garden food :)
