We joined a program that provides us with local, farm-fresh vegetables, meats, yogurt, and cheeses; our hope is that this decision will ultimately support farming and sustainable agriculture in our region, which is good for everyone.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

I think that we live in a society that, unfortunately, hasn't been mindful of our footprint overall in the past - hopefully this is beginning to change with initiatives like ecochallenge. Our way of life has been centered around convenience and comfort - but I'm optimistic that the paradigm is beginning to shift to a values system that is more mindful of our collective responsibility to the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

I think that when we are more mindful of our food consumption, it translates to being more mindful of all consumption, which is healthier for the planet, for our bodies, and for our minds/spirits.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

We have explored investing in geothermal for our home; we are awaiting launch of a product that will be suited for our heating/cooling system. Continued communication with the geothermal provider on this.

Same here. In the meantime, we joined a community solar farm.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Support Companies Leading in Green Energy
Every dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. Name some companies you know that invest in green energy. How can you support them?

SunCommon offers solar energy and Dandelion provides geothermal - we have helped them publicize their work through our company. We also try to purchase products through businesses who are committed to eco-friendly practices.
