IMHO, I think any country with a strong ranching tradition is more likely to have meat-focused diets. Furthermore, I believe it has been observed that the wealthier a country becomes, the more meat its citizens eat. As a child whose parents grew up during the Great Depression and in World War II Europe, serving meat for dinner each night was very important, and a lack of it was seen as "hard times." That is just my little story. I have no idea what this says about American values and ways of living.
