The average American family discards about 950 pounds of food per year. A significant reason behind this is the widespread confusion behind food labeling - many people don't understand the difference between "sell by," "use by," and "best by" dates and believe that food is not fit for consumption after these dates. Food waste creates methane, which is a greenhouse gas, contributes to global warming. Don't waste food!
