I'm encouraged by individual states' actions to combat climate change even if the feds are lagging in action (or worse, working against it).
I am also minimizing (to the best of my ability) any one-use plastic items in my everday life. The statistics for the amount of plastic polluting our oceans is truly staggering and disheartening.

I roasted up some potatoes and onions last night. They were getting soft and I'd either need to eat them or write about throwing them out so I opted to cook them (but here I am writing about them anyway). So guess who's stinking up the microwave with potatoes and onions today at lunchtime? :)

Food

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I'd rather use this money during retirement.
On restaurant food.
Of which I almost always finish.
Or take home in a box.
But hopefully not a styrofoam box.

I bought a bamboo pizza peel just this week! Not only is it a renewable resource, non-toxic and anti-microbial - it was also designed by a family (woman co-founder!) and is made right here in America. It's beautiful and has many uses in addition to pizza (cutting board, bread and cheese board, and of course pizza)!
