REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social JusticeGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?
Rachel Cecile 4/10/2019 8:43 PMI chose to search briefly on this and found a HBR article and quote, “People in low-power positions, whether due to gender or class, tend to exhibit other-oriented rather than self-oriented behavior.” Certainly worth looking into more... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodProducing food that goes uneaten squanders many resources—seeds, water, energy, land, fertilizer, hours of labor, financial capital. Which of these kinds of waste most motivates you to change your behavior regarding food waste? Why?
Rachel Cecile 4/10/2019 4:34 PMEnergy and financial capital - wasting food means both wasting money that could be invested elsewhere and contributing to emissions. I live in an area with increasingly hot summers and forest fires — our quality of life isn’t what it was 15 years ago.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Rachel Cecile 4/09/2019 8:47 PMOur family chose to stick around during spring break rather than traveling. We’ll save our miles for a longer summer trip.
It’s been fun - balanced between work (my husband telecommuted). relaxing, time with my baby niece, spring cleaning, and some gardening! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Rachel Cecile 4/09/2019 8:45 PMMy whole family is excited about this :-) We’re eating dairy and eggs but no meat. -
Rachel Cecile 4/09/2019 8:43 PMRead about Soul Fire Farm and even better consider donating to farmers of color. Book available here — https://www.chelseagreen.com/product/farming-while-black/ -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Rachel Cecile 4/09/2019 8:29 PMCrosswalks, curb cuts, bike lanes, parks with paths and trees and wetlands. Community of all ages. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?
Rachel Cecile 3/24/2019 9:34 PMDone! I’ll need to go through manually and request less frequent mailings from the charities I donate to, however. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Rachel Cecile 3/24/2019 8:40 AMI was struck by the impact of food waste, particularly in developed nations. We signed up for a subscription box of irregular produce and will watch our food waste after meals.-
Rachel Cecile 3/24/2019 9:08 PM -
Anne-Louise Blue 3/24/2019 12:54 PMThe irregular produce subscription sounds like a great idea - I’ll look for a similar option in my area.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Rachel Cecile 3/24/2019 8:34 AMSeems like a wonderful way to decrease carbon emissions while increasing small farmer satisfaction. I love the idea of children being able to visit these silvopasture farms, too!
