Nicole 's actions
Materials
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
#47 Bioplastic
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl and instead replace them with bioplastic or durable options.
Transport
Use Muscle Power
#49 Cars
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Land Use
Plant Trees
#15 Afforestation
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Buildings and Cities
Go for a Daily Walk
#54 Walkable Cities
I will take a walk for 15 minutes each day and take note of the infrastructure that makes walking more or less enjoyable, accessible, and possible.
Materials
Properly Dispose of Refrigerants
#1 Refrigerant Management
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning how to properly dispose of my refrigerator, freezer, and other refrigerants at the end of their useful lives.
Materials
Research Cement Alternatives
#36 Alternative Cement
I will spend at least 10 minutes researching cement alternatives that reduce the carbon footprint of concrete.
Participant Feed

Nicole Weinstein 4/18/2019 11:23 AMTook my reusable salad container out to get lunch today! One less plastic container going to the landfill. -
Nicole Weinstein 4/14/2019 12:55 PMI looked into environmentally friendly alternatives to typical cement. I found a company (http://solidiatech.com/) that cures the concrete with CO2 instead of water. The upshot is that it lowers CO2 emissions and reduces water waste. And because I was already researching, I also looked at permeable options to decrease flooding problems. I think a combo of using Solidiatech pavers with gaps to allow water flow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand UseHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Nicole Weinstein 4/12/2019 1:34 PMI love trees, so having them around is great for my mental and spiritual health. And, of course, given their air cleaning capabilities, they're great for physical health, too! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Nicole Weinstein 4/10/2019 1:12 PMWalking rather than driving to pick my son up from daycare gives us the opportunity to meet up with friends along the way home and increases the likelihood that we might spend some extra time outside and go to the park! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and CitiesWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Nicole Weinstein 4/08/2019 5:53 PMThe flowers are starting to bloom! The main thing I would change about my walk is that there's an intersection that really needs a cross walk. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Nicole Weinstein 4/08/2019 11:15 AMThe main single use items I use are ziplocks and paper towels. I have a number of reusable containers that I can substitute for the ziplocks, and cloth towels that can be used in place of paper ones. -
Nicole Weinstein 4/08/2019 11:07 AMGetting started a little late, but today I put some leftovers into a reusable container instead of using a plastic bag. Off to a strong start!
