REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:52 PMHave also lost weight this fortnight due to the smaller portions - which is another benefit. And Zero waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:50 PMWe planted 22 trees with the Woodland Trust this fortnight - so more than I said on the dashboard. we are very pleased to do this and have referenced both my Grandson Inigo's first birthday and Drawdown with Team Panoramic. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsIn your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:48 PMAlthough a dedicated carnivore in the past, I have enjoyed eating less meet this fortnight and this trend will continue. All the meals I had in my local pub (the Tite) were vegetarian - and very much enjoying the fresh vegetables we received from both the Chadlington Kitchen Garden. But we are still enjoy a chicken roast - now usually just at the weekends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:43 PMWe are very lucky in Chadlington as we have a local kitchen garden which serves the village throughout the year. All vegetables and fruit are distributed locally and therefor zero food miles, organic, fresh and delicious. We are even more committed to this scheme run by the dedicated Chadlington Kitchen Garden team. Thank you Emma and your team. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:40 PMThis has been one of the most effective areas of improvement for me. I have hardly had any waste food this past fortnight. Shane and I will continue to work on zero waste forever. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Social Justice Learn about Local Indigenous PracticesWhat did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?
Nigel Winser 4/23/2019 4:37 PMI have had further discussions with those concerned with the loss of forests around the Gunung Mulu National Park - reviewing the literature sent to me by Robin Hanbury Tenison (Survival International) and others. The Indigenous Penan peoples of Sarawak are having to make a choice about allowing forests to be felled for palm oil plantations. I am even more committed to reducing my use of products that contain palm oil. -
Nigel Winser 4/22/2019 4:48 PMReceived a lovely note from a teacher at the International School in Oman who have just produced a short video about 'reducing, recycling, reusing' to mark Earth Day - and have just circulated this to colleagues in Oman and the UK. -
Nigel Winser 4/22/2019 4:44 PMHave decided to end this fortnight thinking about how to make an additional impact in the UK - and have decided to fund the planting of 22 tress with the Woodland Trust on behalf of the Winser family.-
Karina Moreton 4/23/2019 8:23 AMWhat a fab thing to do. Thank you Nigel

Nigel Winser 4/22/2019 4:33 PMSmall new action yesterday. Set a target to keep to a 2 minute shower each day. Get wet all over. Turn off the shower. Soap up. And then rinse. worked well today. So will keep to this plan. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Purchase a Carbon OffsetA round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2. What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?
Nigel Winser 4/22/2019 4:20 PMFacetime and Whats App calls are a great way to keep in touch with my grandson in New York and also our research team working in the Indian Ocean (Nekton Mission). Took the train to Barcelona for a conference rather than fly.
