I think we have to work together to create awareness and push for market change.  However, most issues are complex with multiple perspectives vying for priority.  This makes our job extremely challenging.... As for what is overwhelming - 1) plastics 2) food 3) water.  As for what makes me hopeful 1) Seeing companies change their methodology or product offering as the result of people voicing their concerns/support.

Given that the women shoulder more of the responsibility of caring for their families, they may also be more likely to spend more of their earnings on their family.... This is a difficult question, and I don't want to spout uneducated gender bias.

The loss of forests and peatlands as CO2 sinks is overwhelming - they take so long to grow and restore themselves even after efforts are started. Getting corporations to see the long-term benefits over short-term profits seems daunting. I feel like I have very little power to change industries to the extent required. It is do-able, though, and could greatly benefit the upcoming generations especially.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

Check labels to eliminate non-sustainable palm oil production, look for recycled and locally sourced paper products.

I think single use plastic bags probably do. I can check to see if there is a resource on this site that can help.
