Enjoying nature, as is. Going paperless or at least reducing a big amount of paper is doable.

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

In southern California a lot needs to change. Besides conserving water, saving water while it rains for example, water treatment plants can make a huge impact.

For this spring we decided to go camping close to where we live instead of flying to Mexico, like we did in the past. This was in the back of our head already, in order to introduce our little one to one more piece of the outdoor lifestyle we love so much - camping! The Drawdown Ecochallenge made us go for it in the end!

Transport Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you often drive short distances instead of biking or walking? If so, how might incorporating an electric bike into your lifestyle help you make more climate-friendly choices?

I tried an electric bike for a week when we got stuck at a friends house with my little one due to a family emergency. I like the ability to make further distances and uphill rides, but think the technolgies needs to develop a bit further for me to be really eco-friendly. The fact that the bikes can't charges themselves when parked by solar energy or by biking already is a throw off. For now I stick to biking everywhere in the neigborhood (bike trailer for child) and also save a trip to the gym this way :)

What are other easy and low-cost ways to reduce your water usage at home?

Since we live in a rental home, our options are limited (pre installed dish washer, laundry, etc). So we make sure to have enough dishes so we can always wait until the dishwasher is really full to make it worth it to run. We talked our landlord into being more water conscious by turning off the watering in the yard when it rains (even though it's a pain in the ass to do that manually), we also collect rain water for our (very few) minimal water plants and always fix leaky faucets right away.

    Food Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

Going to the farmers market has become a weekly routine for us in Portugal. Its a lovely place with colourful fresh veggies and fruits and fish from the local fishermen and the perfect place to have your saturday morning coffee and meet your neighbours. One of the best things is knowing that the money you spend is going directly to the farmer and you're cutting down on how far your food is travelling.

Learned a lot. I personally prefer a "real" bike over an electric bike. Great workout, no need to go the gym and saves even more electricity.
