The Warthog School Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Transport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

By purchasing a green vehicle, we are also supporting the promotion and improvement of this type of technology.

Technological difficulties are plaguing me this year yet I am determined to charge on and finish it out.    In fact, both kids and I are brainstorming how to KEEP GOING after the challenge ends.  All of us have noticed that it is easier to make the right choices when we feel that our actions are part of a bigger community effort.  We are brainstorming ways to keep challenging ourselves well beyond these three weeks.  We are thinking about a weekly homeschool group/action item.

Day 3 of the DrawDown EcoChallenge coincided with a case of the homeschool stir-crazies.  When the wiggles became to much we declared "working lunch!" and headed to Market of Choice.  And WOW  did our usual lunch stop look different when viewed through our newly affixed plastic-awareness goggles.  Yikes.  We did our best in our choices - where we felt we had them - but we were two plastic clam shells, three sample-size plastic spoons, and a small plastic ice-cream cup in the hole by meal's end.  We added that to the fact that we had meat in the mix (thanks to world water day a few weeks ago we all know how much water it takes to make a hamburger!) and we quickly saw the cost of our human consumption.

Real world math education for the day - check.
A lesson that I guarantee they will always remember.
