  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I am constantly looking at ways to use things that I either receive in the mail, or items I have bought, and then using them again, in a different way, before even considering throwing them out.

Forgot to log into this the first week, but now that I have, but this is great! Learned a lot from this, and actually have used some of the info found in the articles they have as links.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

This was easy, as my company subsidizes public transportation from Seattle to anywhere. Nothing better than not having to drive to-and-from Seattle for work.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Go Paperless

Read the Washington Post article on stopping of junk mail and logged into the site in the article where I could stop receiving credit card solicitations for 5 years. Hopefully it will work, as I get too many of these during the week, including repeat performers like Alaska Airlines!.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Materials Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

Mulch all the time, as I was aware of the benefits for trees (and other plants) I have planted around my home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Zero-waste Cooking
How are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues? Why do these issues matter to you?

These issues matter from a person and environmental health perspective.  They  matter because the longer environmental degradation issues are not being addressed, the damage still rampages on.  At some point if not checked, cleaning up the environment may not be possible and lung health is compromised.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I found the literature interesting and supplemented the reading with you tube vides.  I was very interested in tree layering and multistrata agroforestry.  There is not a lot of information on how these work in the Pacific Northwest given our growing season and the impact the shade has on crops.  Interesting reading though.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

On Wednesday I used a salad plate instead of a dinner plate for spaghetti.  It reduced the amount I consumed and wasted.  It also left enough spaghetti for a second lunch this weekend.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Use Plant Trees

Today we planted one apple tree, two cherry trees and one pear tree in our yard bringing our total tree count to 19.  This will also allow us to produce our own fruit in upcoming years.

We have updated our meeting message to state that suppliers and vendors provide read ahead digital documents and that they utilize Skype and GoToMeetings.  Two meetings the week of the 8th of April were converted to remote/virtual meeting.
