Having reduced portions already over the last few years, it was a challenge to reduce these further, especially without snacking more instead. Making sure the meals felt filling even though portions were smaller and avoiding eating for 20mins after a meal helped get over the feeling that we needed more food.  It was easy to reduce portions when eating at home, and much more difficult when eating out. Having eating out as a treat of normal portions was mostly what we ended up doing, though eating less and taking leftovers home would have been a good idea but I didn't think of that until now. Reducing portions is a good challenge to try!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Hard to do the smaller portions challenge today: pork with prunes and potatoes for dinner. Yum. Trying wider bowls instead of plates, more gravy with less meat so we don’t eat it all at once. Upside is more leftovers for tomorrow, woo hoo!
