Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

There are obviously health benefits to eating lesser amounts of food at each serving. While not an expert, I know that digestion is a bodily function that requires energy and allowing the body to work less is in itself a win.

How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

The biggest challenge in the last few years is the realization of the carbon footprint of traveling by air.  This has caused, for a good cause, an personal examination of how we travel and how to lessen the impact. Flying less and using offsets are options, but I am not sure they fully address the criticality of this issue yet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "R's" make you feel?

I want to do more thrift store shopping and repair clothes rather than just buying new. I make the excuse that I am too busy and end up buying fast fashion, shopping online, etc. Thinking about finding items that still have use in local and thrift stores invites making decisions with more awareness, mindfulness and deliberate purpose -  which sounds more time consuming, but also much more satisfying than the busy, crazy way I usually rush through things and end up with junk anyway.
