  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

Knowing the difference between the two helps me make better decisions because I know how long it has been shelved for before my purchase and how long I have to use it before it goes bad and turns to waste.

I learned a good deal of new information from the challenge. I got a better understanding of peatlands and renewable energy sources. Biomass seems to be a much more viable option for fuel than I realized, in the short term anyway. I also learned that I can resist my craving for hamburgers more easily than I thought, though I did cheat one night (I did not mark myself as having completed the challenge that night) but that was more due to peer pressure, which I already knew I give into far too easily. I wish I had done a bit more research and gotten a chance to do some more worthwhile activities but time got away from me. Next year I will join the challenge again and shoot to score at least a thousand points.

I learned to eat healthier and walk more to places that are a few minutes away.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety. What would need to change for you to regularly choose more climate-friendly options?

money and convenience impact my transportation. When I need to go somewhere that is 30 min away I drive. Anything less than 15, I now promise to walk.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of eating smaller portions?

Aside from environmental benefits eating smaller portions can help reduce the amount of obesity we have in America, and can also prevent large amounts of food waste. Many under developed countries are not fortunate enough to be able to fill their plates to the max. If we are able to manage our portion sizes we can decrease the amount of food we are wasting.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Try Carpooling
List some of the places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I frequently drive to and from campus monday through thurdsay. On these days I can start carpooling with the other girls in my house. There are 5 of us that live together so we can take turns driving to school in the morning.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
In your opinion, what contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other countries? What does this say about North American values and ways of living?

To take better care of my body, I try to eat less meat, which also helps the environment since a plant based diet is beneficial to the planet than meat based!

The ways of living may be different from others in the sense that we do not value where our food is coming from as much.

Besides environmental benefits, eating smaller portions may also help with not overeating and in turn, lessening the change of becoming overweight and all of the health problems that go along with that.
