Time and convenience are major factors in choosing my transportation choices. Dedicated travel lanes for transit and a more comprehensive overall network would help to increase reliability, access and shorten rider times.

I love that Portland has such a great bike culture and following. In the summer, bike days and group rides increase ridership and make biking a social event. I would like to see more protected lanes and better connections between disjointed paths throughout our city. 

There are a lot of local incentives in Portland through the ETO to help homeowners in less efficient or older homes upgrade elements such as windows, insulation, weatherstripping, and HVAC systems. 

High speed rail is an extremely efficient means of travel, but unfortunately the US is trying to defund mass transport opportunities. Advocacy is really key. Also, I hadn't realized the challenges of property ownership and costs as being a major constraint to the implementation of high speed rail systems in the US.

Today I donated to organizations supporting global family planning and overcoming women's sanitation barriers to attend school because GIRLS RUN THE WORLD!

After my research, I learned that large structures cause turbulent winds that actually aren't ideal for micro wind turbines. In addition, it is far more efficient to install large diameter, tall wind turbines in open areas with steady, strong winds. I didn't get around to mulching the yard yet — it's been too wet outside! — but it's still on my list, and the forecast is looking up. PBOT is giving away free compost this week at its facility in NE Portland. I'm hoping there will be some left this weekend, and the forecast holds, so I can finally cross this task off the list. Attended a great Pecha Kucha today and learned a lot about of different topics. 

Steel I imagine might have a large footprint compared to wood. With plant based materials and bamboo having the smaller footprint.

Convenience and time. Taking a train is more enjoyable because I can make the travel time more functional.
